Commander's Corner

Commander Josh David

Greetings Comrades,

I hope you all enjoyed a safe and happy Independence Day. I was fortunate to spend most of the day working a motorcycle escort for our Commander in Chief followed by a cookout at home with family, a very patriot day.  I enjoyed the message from our state commander who shared a part of the VFW Initiation Ceremony:

"My comrades: Ours is a great work, lasting through life; for just as long as there is a soldier, sailor, marine, airman or guardian, so long must our work continue. As members of this Post we shall expect you to do your share. To care for comrades in distress, and those who depend upon them is part of the work of this order and when death shall lay its cold hand upon any of our number, it is our duty to see that they are laid in the bosom of Mother Earth with the honors of war, if possible.

We also owe a duty to our order and to our comrades at all times. Therefore, we caution you to be careful in your conduct, even when surrounded by those whom you may think to be your friends, for the friends of today may prove the enemy of tomorrow. Therefore, do or say nothing that may be used against you or our noble order. When the breath of scandal touches the character of a comrade, many are ready to condemn, and to accept a bare statement as proof of guilt. Be not too hasty in dealing with the weakness of a comrade. Neither think nor speak ill of any until you have exercised the prudence of a true soldier. The lives of many have been blasted by thoughtless and unkind words. Therefore, be very cautious in your conversation, prudent in your conduct and charitable in your judgment. And, remember always the obligation you have taken here at our altar. Remember every obligation of life; be true to yourself, your home and your loved ones, and these comrades will ever be your strong defenders."

Words we should strive to follow every day.

I want to thank newly elected and appointed comrades along with those elected and appointed to positions within the auxiliary.  We have a vacancy on the House Committee and are in need of members on the Building and Grounds, Service, Activities and Awards committees along with a desperate need for new Honor Guard members.  If you are a VFW member or auxiliary member and interested in helping out please see me or one of the post officers.

I am grateful for the opportunity to serve the post.  I plan to focus on improving communication with members and expanding the range of activities that we offer and sponsor regularly.  I cannot do it alone; I need you to help.

Semper Fi,
Josh David
